Just having a think while on lunch, but most if not all the games ive done this year have been woodland (which I've thoroughly enjoyed) but are there any games/sites that have a more built up area? that would be ideal for a Stalingrad or Berlin battle? not just a site with an empty warehouse divided by plastic sheets and pallets but one with a good mix of open space and buildings?

More curiosity on my part than anything else really but id imagine a "CQB" (i hate that phrase as it conjurers up images of the plastic sheet/pallet sites) would be a nice change of tactics/scenery

An urban game would be fun but I don't know of many urban sites. I think one of the gunman sites is an old raf airstrip though I could be wrong

Ralph

Sssh, don't mention the 'S' word. Usually the death knell for any game, we've had so many cancelled over the years - mainly due to the usual problems with urban sites, that they get sold to developers faster than we can arrange games to play on them.

We did do an 'S' game at the Old Pot Factory in Manchester (now gone) as well as the battle of Cologne Cathedral, also a good CQB/Urban game at the old Tata steelworks near Liverpool (gone), the old Phoenix steelworks site near Chesterfield (gone), Drakelowe tunnels in Staffordshire (three times, now gone) etc etc. All games at the Sandpit made heavy use of the old quarry buildings

The only real urban sites around are First & Only's Anzio site near Leek (if you don't mind 1980s brick built MOD buildings, it would be OK for Arnhem I guess) and military training sites which Josh occasionally gets. We are having a look at a site with more buildings for the next 900 days game, but early days yet.

Josh had access to a great factory site, played a Cold War game there, but I think that has gone too.

Cheers
Martin

There is the Urban Assault site run by Firesupport, but they aren't willing to let others use the site + the pyro rules are really, really shite!

The problem with CQB sites are two fold really. They are either too modern in look and don't really give anything to the game or the groups that own them more than likely want you to pay through the nose for there use.
It like Martin has said the ability to be able to have these site consistently available are very rare indeed.

I figured the reason we don't see many was the rarity of suitable sites  maybe we will get lucky in 2016?

Ambush adventues have an urban site in Aldershot and theres an MOD CQB training site at Longmoor just off the A3 just past Liphook that takes Airsoft bookings but as with all MOD sites they can cancel at a moments notice if our special forces need it for something that won't get in the news .I don't expect either site would be cheap but if you could pull off Longmoor for a .... Russian city game  it would be awesome .

Even with the risk of if being cut of last min would something like that be worth looking into?

Cost is a massive issue for an MOD site. Players would be looking at an absolute minimum of around £45/£50 for 1 day as the costs that Landmarc charge arent cheap. ('green fees' + site insurance can be astronomical). And most of that cost would go straight to the site meaning not much for the oragnisers to spend on props or bangs.

To be able to run a game at a site such as this will take a lot of support from the player base. Its a cost that will have to be carried by someone at the end of the day after all.
Also to truly do it justice you would want a larger group of players to use the site to it full potential and there is the other problem is there has been a few events having to cancel or have small numbers over the last couple of years.

I'm just looking through an airsoft magazine and there's supposed to be a urban site at piddington in Oxfordshire and a few other places.
If someone was to arrange a event at one of these sites there might not be as much health and safety crap as there would be if you were to use a MOD site as it would already be done by the company

As already stated Army Group South tried to run the S game and the site got pulled it was a paper mill derelict with a chimney looked the part. Also we tried a game which didn`t get enough support until we pulled it then out of the woodwork people stated they would have come :wife:

The sites are mainly all too modern and to get a MOD site the risk is high and you would need the support from the outset paid up front not I am thinking about it. Longmoor is an awesome place but you do need confirmed numbers and sadly over the last couple of years support has dwindled.

Fingers crossed in 2016 there are a few more joining the hobby who can be relied on to attend events and joining organisers in helping set up events

:good:

I wonder if this is something we could work towards next year. Personally I don't mind paying a bit more for a better experience and I'll go with any excuse to wear my Rusky uniform.

Ralph

Like Gordon has said most of these sites look and feel too modern, only possible choice I could think of would be the Old Bristol Courthouse. With some thoughtful set dressing done beforehand it might be possible to give it the look of a 40's building, perhaps a fortified NKVD establishment. Just a shedload of dustsheets and posters with a few flags would cover a multitude of sins. That Eastern front game that shall not be named would be a dream come true for me, sadly I'm not sure if it's doable with the current number of Soviet players. Yes the Red Army is suffering a manpower crisis, imagine that :o

I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.

Maybe we could work towards a big game in the new year? Monies up front with advertisement months in advance?

I just don't think the numbers are around these days willing to pay the costs. Josh ran two games at Piddington, a fantastic site. First time there were over 100 players, second time barely 30 people turned up, and MOD sites are hideously expensive.
